ALL NATIONS TOURNAMENT

The Greater Pollok Integration Network has and is still supporting a lot of local projects to facilitate and encourage integration among refugees/asylum seekers and host population within the Greater Pollok Area.

In July 29th and 30th last year, we in partnership with Afro Scots united and Glasgow Ansar did organise and support the all nations tournament that took place at King George the V park involving 8 teams from different parts of the world.

For example Afro-Scot, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Congo ,Red Road United, Universal, Zambia, Ansar. The event was opened by the Superintendent Williams Newland from the Pollok Police Office on Saturday the 29th of July. There was also face painting for the children and health check for men.

The final was played on Sunday the 30th of July between Cameroon and Ansar. It was won by Ansar However this 2007, we are in the planning process of another All Nations Tournament.

It will take place at King George V Park this July 2007. This year we are anticipating more teams than last year. There will also be African drumming, face painting for the children, health check, and prizes to be won.

We would like to welcome everybody within and out with the Greater Pollok area. More information will be given when the time is due and will welcome contributions from any sponsors.

Our contact is : gpintegrationnetwork@greaterpollok.net.

Money off public transport for 16-18 year olds and young volunteers

Here's what you get:

  • 1/3 off the adult single fare on most buses across Scotland
  • A free Scottish Youth Rail card giving you 1/3 off rail travel
  • 2 free return ferry journeys to the mainland each year if you're resident on a Scottish Island

In the future, your National Entitlement Card will give you access to other discounts and services being rolled out by your local authority so it's a good idea to keep it safe.

It doesn't cost anything to apply, just the time it takes to fill out an application form and have it validated at your nearest local authority or Young Scot office. (You have to provide a passport-type colour photo of yourself - to appear on your card.)

GPCF "Moving Forward" event

Recent funding changes meant we lost our core staff for community engagement activities but the GPCF still has a lot to offer. All of the ongoing projects for funding, community buildings management, transport and the internet have been recording their own successes and are getting ready for more of the same in the new year.

To make it clear that the GPCF are here to stay we are having a 'Moving Forward' event on December 15th in the Bytes'n'PCs cafe at the Wedge.

All of the local organisations and community groups are invited but anyone can drop in to see what's happening and hear about what we have planned for the near future.
