This Year's 'Big Draw' Opens For Registration
Anyone can run a Big Draw event – large organisations, small community groups or keen individuals. All we ask is that drawing is the main focus and that the Big Draw logo appears on all promotional materials. Registration is now open and they hope you will join in. Please start now by entering your contact details on their free online database www.thebigdraw.org. Every organiser who registers receives a free copy of the Drawing Inspiration Awards book, illustrating last year’s winning projects, and a CD of practical strategies and publicity materials. These are packed with inspiring ideas and show how organisers have used limited resources and unlimited imaginations to get everyone drawing. If you apply (successfully) for a £500 Drawing Inspiration Award after your event, you could feature in the next book!
The main focus of the event is mid-October (Big Draw Day is Saturday 13), but you can run events any time in October. With competing pressures on calendars, their themes are broad, allowing links with Family Learning Week, Black History Month or Apple Day. Visit www.thebigdraw.org to find out more

Way ahead for Craigbank
YMCA Glasgow’s existing Craigbank Centre
YMCA Glasgow is delighted to announce a new vision for the Craigbank Centre at Newfield Square. The Big Lottery has been asked to fund the cost of a feasibility study to map a way forward for the building.
Other funding partners are being sought to make the dream a reality. Rosehill Housing Association has agreed to support the development of the new centre and may be able to access funds from Communities Scotland.
Support for the project has also been voiced by Councillor Willie O’Rourke and Councillor Alex Glass who both think that YMCA Glasgow is the voluntary organisation best placed in the area to manage and deliver local services from the new centre.
Local residents will be consulted on the design of the centre, programme of activities and hopefully some will join the committee formed to oversee the management of the new facility.
Mike and Sue Thornley Architects have been consulted on the feasibility study and everyone hopes that the new centre will make a contribution to the new Craigbank village, which will be built around the site over the next few years. In keeping with environmental concerns, the new centre should be carbon neutral and a range of energy saving initiatives such as solar heating, wind generation and solid fuel are being investigated.
