ALL NATIONS TOURNAMENT

The Greater Pollok Integration Network has and is still supporting a lot of local projects to facilitate and encourage integration among refugees/asylum seekers and host population within the Greater Pollok Area.

In July 29th and 30th last year, we in partnership with Afro Scots united and Glasgow Ansar did organise and support the all nations tournament that took place at King George the V park involving 8 teams from different parts of the world.

For example Afro-Scot, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Congo ,Red Road United, Universal, Zambia, Ansar. The event was opened by the Superintendent Williams Newland from the Pollok Police Office on Saturday the 29th of July. There was also face painting for the children and health check for men.

The final was played on Sunday the 30th of July between Cameroon and Ansar. It was won by Ansar However this 2007, we are in the planning process of another All Nations Tournament.

It will take place at King George V Park this July 2007. This year we are anticipating more teams than last year. There will also be African drumming, face painting for the children, health check, and prizes to be won.

We would like to welcome everybody within and out with the Greater Pollok area. More information will be given when the time is due and will welcome contributions from any sponsors.

66-year old woman robbed : Police appeal for information.

The woman was in the car park at the Pollok Leisure pool at Cowglen Road at around 19:30 hours on Friday when she was approached from behind by two men, one of whom pushed her to the ground before making off with her handbag.

The handbag contained personal items and a two-figure cash sum.

As a result of the incident the woman suffered a broiken arm and sever bruising.

There are no descriptions of the suspects.

Detective Constable John  Morrison is appealing for information. He said

I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Pollok Leisure Pool or the car park itself on Friday evening, who may have witnessed the robbery or can help identify the suspect, to come forward.

Anyone who may be able to assist with our enquiries is asked to contact Pollok Police Station on 0141 532 5616. Alternatively, information can be passed onto CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111, where anonimity can be maintained.

Community Planning Partnership

The Greater Pollok Community Forum wish to inform you that Community Planning have notified ourselves that our funding will be withdrawn from 18th December 2006 resulting in the loss of all the core staff.

The Forum Board of volunteers will continue to function as there are four other projects independently funded on fixed terms that require to be managed:

  • The Greater Pollok Community Transport Initiative
  • The Greater Pollok Buildings Project
  • The Greater Pollok Star Funding Project
  • The Web Developer for the Portal

The Greater Pollok Post will publish these details in the next issue and would like a response or comment from yourself regarding your opinion on the withdrawal of the Greater Pollok Community Forum's services to the community.
